2. Configure the SensorTag to send readings to the Watson IoT Platform

In this section, you register an organization on the Watson IoT Platform and configure your SensorTag to send readings and device events to it.

Your SensorTag is currently broadcasting to the IoT Foundation platform for anyone to see.  Registering an organization on the Watson IoT platform allows you to restrict who can see the sensor readings from your SensorTag.

  1. On your computer, open a browser and log in in to IBM Bluemix:
    https: //console.ng.bluemix.net
    You should already have a running application from the “Node-RED: basic to bots” course. If not, create a Node-RED application by using the Node-RED boilerplate.

  2. Select your Node-RED application.
  3. Click the Connections
  4. Click Connect New. Then, select Internet of Things.
  5. Click Internet of Things Platform and then click Create.
  6. Restart your application.
  7. On the Internet of Things service page, click Manage.
  8. Click Launch.
  9. Make a note of your organization and your organization URL.

  10. Select Devices.
  11. Click Device Types and click Create Type.
  12. Click Create device type.
  13. Enter a name and description for the Device Type for your SensorTag.
  14. Click Next. Leave the template as is.
  15. Click Next. Then, click Next again to confirm.
  16. Leave the metadata as is.
  17. Click Create.
  18. Repeat the steps to create a new device type for your PLAYBULB device type, which you’ll use in a later lab.
  19. Register a device gateway for the Raspberry Pi that you’ll use in a later lab. Click Create Type.
  20. Click Create gateway type.
  21. Enter a name and description for your gateway type, such as PI-Gates and Raspberry Pi Gateways.
  22. Click Next. Leave the template as is.
  23. Click Next. Then, click Next again to confirm.
  24. Leave the metadata as is.
  25. Click Create.You’ve created the device types that you’ll use in this course. You are now ready to register your SensorTag.
