Create a persona

The first step in the design thinking process is to select a typical target user for the solution you want to develop. Give the person a name and draw a picture or select an image for that person so that you can identify with him or her. Think about the person and how that person might think, act, and feel.

For an example, our persona will be:

Maria is a junior at Riverside High School in Durham, North Carolina. This is her first day at a new school. Maria wakes up the morning and is already nervous. She can’t eat much breakfast. She gets on the bus without talking to anyone. She arrives at school and tries to find her first class. In class, it’s hard to concentrate. At the end of the day, she goes home, perhaps still a bit nervous but tired. She wishes she could talk to someone about her anxieties and hopes the next day will be better.
