An intent is the purpose behind a statement. It’s a group of examples of things a user might say to communicate a specific goal or idea. Let’s look at the Food Coach chatbot that has an initial greeting asking if the user has eaten recently. Anticipating a response, there are intents that enable the chatbot to recognize and respond to #yes or #no responses. (The pound sign or hash tag is used to indicate an intent in the Watson Conversation tool.)
