The Iteanz Guidewire PolicyCenter Business Analyst Training is meticulously designed for professionals aiming to master the core Underwriting and Policy Administration capabilities of the Guidewire InsuranceSuite. PolicyCenter is the system of record for policies, products, and underwriting decisions.

This course empowers Business Analysts to understand the complete Policy Lifecycle—from product definition and application submission to renewal and cancellation. Participants will learn how to configure the Product Model, manage Underwriting Authority, and bridge the gap between business underwriting needs and technical implementation using Out-of-the-Box (OOTB) functionality.

Prerequisites

To derive the maximum benefit from this course, attendees should have:

  • Solid understanding of Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance principles (Risk, Premium, Coverage, Deductibles).
  • Familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) or Agile/Scrum frameworks.

Module 1: Introduction to Guidewire PolicyCenter
  • Overview of Guidewire InsuranceSuite.
  • PolicyCenter Architecture and Key Features.
  • The role of the BA in PolicyCenter implementations.
  • Navigation: The Tab Bar, Sidebar, and Info Bar.

Lab: Logging in, searching for accounts, and exploring the user workspace.

Module 2: Account Management
  • The concept of an "Account" vs. a "Policy".
  • Creating and Managing Accounts (Person vs. Company).
  • Account Hierarchy and Relationships.
  • Moving Policies between Accounts.

Lab: Creating a new account, adding contacts, and linking locations.

Module 3: The Product Model (Core BA Concept)
  • Introduction to the Product Model structure.
  • Product Architecture: Product -> Policy Line -> Coverage Categories.
  • Configuring Coverages, Exclusions, and Conditions.
  • Defining Limits and Deductibles.
  • Availability Logic (State-specific or Tier-specific rules).

Lab: Reviewing the Product Model in the "Product Designer" visual tool.

Module 4: Policy Submission (New Business)
  • Understanding the Submission Wizard workflow.
  • Qualification Questions and Pre-qualification.
  • Data Entry: Drivers, Vehicles, Buildings, and Locations.
  • Offering: Multi-version quoting.
  • Quoting and Binding processes.

Lab: Completing a full submission for a Personal Auto and Commercial Property policy.

Module 5: Policy Transactions (Changes & Renewals)
  • Policy Change: Endorsements, Mid-term adjustments.
  • Renewal: Automated vs. Manual renewal workflows.
  • Pre-renewal direction: Capping limits or non-renewing specific risks.
  • Handling Out-of-Sequence (OOS) transactions and conflict resolution.

Lab: Executing a mid-term policy change and manually processing a renewal.

Module 6: Cancellations, Reinstatements & Rewrites
  • Cancellation: Carrier-initiated vs. Insured-initiated.
  • Calculating Refunds (Pro-rata vs. Short-rate).
  • Reinstatement: Reviving a cancelled policy without a gap in coverage.
  • Rewrite: Rewrite New Term vs. Rewrite Remainder of Term.

Lab: Cancelling a policy for non-payment and subsequently reinstating it.

Module 7: Underwriting & Authority
  • Underwriting Issues: Blocking (Hard stops) vs. Informational alerts.
  • Authority Profiles: Granting approval limits to users.
  • Referring issues to supervisors.
  • Risk Analysis screens (MVRs, Claims History, Credit Reports).

Lab: Triggering an underwriting issue and logging in as a Supervisor to approve it.

Module 8: Reinsurance & Audits (Commercial Lines)
  • Overview of Reinsurance Management in PolicyCenter (Facultative & Treaty).
  • Premium Audits: Final audit and physical audit workflows.
  • Reporting and interfaces with BillingCenter.
Module 9: Forms, Documents, and Validation
  • Forms Inference: Logic for attaching forms to a policy.
  • Document Management System integration.
  • Validation Rules: Ensuring data integrity before quoting.

Lab: Verifying which forms are generated based on specific coverages.

Module 10: Administration & Integration
  • Organization Model: Producer Codes, Agencies, and internal Group structures.
  • User Attributes and Permissions.
  • Integration: How PC talks to BC (Billing) and CC (Claims).
  • Product Designer (APD): A deep dive into the tool used by BAs to define requirements.

Lab: Setting up a new Producer Code and Agency.
